Who is Kristy High?
My name is Kristy High. I am an educator, a children's book author, and a publicist. I am originally from North Carolina but relocated to Ohio in 2012. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Masters in Health Education and Promotion from Virginia Tech. I am a 3x co-author of the acclaimed children’s books Peter’s Perfect Pipes, I’m No Different Than You, and I am Powerful, I am Amazing, I am a King. My first book, Peter’s Perfect Pipes, has been adapted into an animated series that is used as an educational resource for hospitals and schools nationwide. I am passionate about Reading and Literacy and enhancing the knowledge of patients and families, and meeting them where they are to assist in improving their quality of life. In my free time, I like to travel, volunteer, read, watch mindless TV (reality shows), go to the spa and hang with friends and family.
I have been writing since I was a kid but seriously started writing three years ago. I decided to write children’s books when my friend/co-author Jaime Mahaffey and I decided we should create educational resources that are fun and easy to understand for the patients we cared for. Peter's Perfect Pipes was thought of by Jaime's daughter and, it is a play on (perfect pipes = healthy lungs). I'm No Different Than You came to me in a dream, and it is also something I remind kids that have chronic conditions to remember - they are no different than other kids.
My favorite books to read are thrillers and any books geared towards spirituality, growth, and development, whether personal or professional.
Some interesting things about me: I am TERRIFIED of spiders, my weakness is a Caramel Frappuccino with no whip from Starbucks, I am a foodie and will try anything ONCE including Octopus which I tried in Barcelona! My friends would say I am an overachiever and love very deeply. They also say I am HILARIOUS! I don’t know about that, but if I can make others laugh and bring joy, I’m all about it!!
My motto is “LIVE LIFE, DON’T CHASE IT.”
This year (2021), I am expanding my author coaching services and hopefully adding a new book to the health series. I advise all authors to write what you are passionate about, and the creativity will come! Don't rush the process. You are not in competition with anyone. I also plan to focus on living more in the moment and being thankful for all of God’s blessings!!
